Long Time No See

Hey there! Not sure if you are a first time reader or not but if you aren't you'll know that it's been a few years since I last posted, and a lot has change. First of all I got a new camera and stopped taking pictures with the crappy camera on my old iPod. Another thing that happened was that I spent a lot more time learning techniques and trying to actually use the things I already know to be true. I know you may hear a lot of people say that the aperture doesn't do much but since working more with it everything in my photos has changed. Another skill I learned was Photoshop. Let me just say that photoshop is probably the most important skill to know. It's not going to take an awful picture and make it great, but it does have the power to make a good photo even better. I also learned the importance of non-intrusive editing. Lighting is everything and some conditions you can't fix in the moment. That's where this type of editing comes in and it's a HUGE factor!
Another thing that happened in my life was that I got 2 photos into the State Fair and 2 of them won prizes. I ended up getting an honorable mention in one category and 1st place in another! Another thing that really excited me was taking my sister's senior portraits. This is what started me out with portrait photography and without it I wouldn't have known how important it would become in my life.
This summer I went on vacation in Colorado and that was a great place for me to work on my nature shots! I love taking photos of nature and being able to take pictures and do what I love while in a place as beautiful as Denver, and the Rocky Mountains helped me to put even more emphasis in getting a quality picture that I could be proud of.

Another thing I've started to enjoy is candid photos, to the chagrin of my friends. The good thing about it is that I have all of the pictures I need for graduation and birthdays stocked up, with them none the wiser. What's a better gift than a photo book? It's the equivalent of giving people back a part of their live that they may not remember giving them a brief glimpse into the past. Enough about that though. Candid photos are important not only because it is a beautiful and underrated style of photography, but also because it can strengthen your photography skills. It can strengthen your skills because you have no control over the position or lighting of what you are taking a picture of, and because if you capture it at just the right moment you are able to tell a story and view a perspective of the world that you may not be used to seeing.
Anyway, I thought that since photography is such a big part of my life it may be a good idea to get back on the blog and post some tips and tricks as well as explaining how my shoots go. Since it will be a little bit of a fresh start tell me what kind of stuff you would like to see me write about in the comments, or any questions you may have about photography. As always, have a great day, and if you want to see more share and subscribe!
